Mid-year recap
Hello dearest readers, how are you? Is summer treating you well? I will be honest: summer has never been my favorite season. I don't know why. Of course, I'm happy because school's over, yet I don't enjoy it as many of you might be. Anyhow, this time, I'm seeing summer with new eyes, mainly because I'm learning how to romanticize my life. And it's going pretty well. But let's get to what this post is going to be: you'll be reading about this half-year recap. What does it mean: I chose two movies/TV series, two books and two songs for each one of the past six months. In this way, you can get an idea of what that precise month has been for me. Ready? Let's go.
๐ค January
Movies: Saltburn; Upgraded.
I went from crying because I didn't know what was going on to crying happy tears. After all, Camila Mendes and Archie Reneaux are starring in one of the best rom-coms ever.
Books: The Bromance Book Club (Less Kay Adams); Magnolia Parks (Jesse Hastings). The first one, I think, is a book that everyone should read if they like to laugh, if they like Bridgerton and especially if they like love. The second book is the complete opposite, yet it is a great read, a bit heavy in some passages, but still a five-star read.
Songs: Spazio Tempo (Francesco Gabbani); Freedom! 90s (George Michael). First of all: both songs are chosen because of something I've seen on TV. The first one is an Italian series, "Un Professore", and it made me fall in love (not too much) with philosophy. The second one was chosen after watching the Wham documentary and George Michael's documentary (which he partially shot himself).
๐ February
Movies: Two Weeks Notice; Tre metri sopra il cielo. I know, I know, it's two romantic comedies, but can you blame me? It was February, the month of love. Mind it, I spent the 14th with my besties instead of going out with a guy. Anyway, The reason I watched these two particular movies in February, was because of the male protagonists in them: Hugh Grant and Riccardo Scamarcio. I'm not sorry for confessing my sins.
Books: Breakfast at Tiffany's (Truman Capote); Girl With a Pearl Earring (Tracy Chevalier). Once again, I read these because of the movies. But trust me, they are going to be your favorites of all time.
Songs: Unwritten (Natasha Bedingfield); Greatest Love Story (LANCO). The first song... I'm a little ashamed to write it down. Not because it's a bad song... but I think the movie was overrated. I mean it didn't give me the goosebumps everyone was talking about. The second song, well I entered my country era.
๐ March
Movies: Roadhouse (2024); Taxi Driver. Yes, I'm a swiftie and I support Jake Gyllenhaal. Sorry, not sorry. And yes, my obsession with young Robert De Niro re-surfaced.
Books: Before We Were Strangers (Renee Carlino); Sleepers (Lorenzo Carcaterra). Just a couple of words: don't read if you don't like crying.
Songs: Losing My Religion (R.E.M.); The Way I Love You (Taylor's Version) (Taylor Swift). Pov: in my "I like screaming my favorite songs at the top of my lungs". Plus "it's time to get ready for the Eras Tour in July".
๐ค April
Movies: The Dead Poets Society; The Idea of You. First choice, you shouldn't be surprised. Second choice, you shouldn't be surprised as well, because of course I was going to watch a movie where the male protagonist is inspired by Harry Styles (or at least that's what they said).
Books: People We Meet on Vacation (Emily Henry); The Hobbit (J.R.R. Tolkien). No words for the first book, just that I wished I was her for the entire time. Second book... I read it because I wanted to read how (spoiler alert) Thorin and Kili died. They're my favorite dwarves.
Songs: Florida!!! (Taylor Swift); High School (Taylor Swift). Not just these two, but the whole album. These were the ones that stood out to me the first time I heard the album.
๐งก May
Movies: Solo un padre; Lezioni di Cioccolato. Sorry not sorry for my obsession with Luca Argentero.
Books: Girl, Interrupted (Suzanna Kaysen); The Da Vinci Code (Dan Brown). I just wanted to see the difference with the movies. Honest.
Songs: loml (Taylor Swift); Beatrice (Tedua ft. Annalisa). I entered a sad phase because I couldn't believe I was going to see Taylor live. And I also entered the phase in which I fell in love with Italian trappers/rappers because I needed to get out of that damn blue period of my life.
๐ June
Movies: America's Sweethearts (Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders); Maxton Haal; Bridgerton. For the docuseries, I was interested to see what the girls have to go through while they are preparing for the games. While for the other series, I was genuinely interested to know what all the hype around it was. And it didn't disappoint me. Sorry, I broke my own rule. The third TV series of the month is Bridgerton OF COURSE.
Books: Love and Psyche (Apuleio); The Rime of the Ancient Mariner (Samuel Taylor Coleridge). No need to explain, I just needed to tick them off my TBR.
Songs: Altrove (Ultimo); The Albatross (Taylor Swift). The first one is my hymn for the summer. The second one I picked as "song of the month" was chosen by the book I read that is cited in it.
Well, dearest gentle tortured readers, thank you for staying till the end. See you soon.
